THE HONG KONG SERIES

by David Yang

A series of paintings of the 2019-2020 Hong Kong protests looking largely at Jacob Lawrence’s Migration SeriesĀ as a source of inspiration. The paintings holistically tackle the concept of many individual bodies coming together to form a greater whole: primary colors becoming tertiary colors, people becoming crowds, ideas becoming ideology. These paintings are meant to function together as a series. Instead of commentating on the event, they seek to document one of the largest instances of social movement in human history.
